Mental Health Services

There are licensed psychologists, psychotherapists and social workers at Champlain Saint-Lambert who are here to assist students in identifying and resolving any difficulties which could interfere in the attainment of their goals within the areas of personal and career development. This is done through understanding, identifying, exploring, and finding different alternatives to the issue(s).

The mental health team is here to listen and explore these issues with students in a supportive, non-judgmental way. They collaborate with students to clarify the concern(s) and to help students express their feelings. They assist them in viewing the issue from different perspectives, to explore and identify goals for change, and to determine an appropriate plan of action. The plan of action may include counselling/psychotherapy within the College and/or referral to an outside community resource.

Some of the issues that students bring forth include: depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, transition/developmental difficulties, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, sexuality and gender, diversity, self-esteem, time management, exam/class anxiety, procrastination, study skills, and/or motivation.

Hours Of Operation & Location

The mental health team is located in Student Services office on the first floor of the F-block. Hours of operation are from Monday to Friday, 8AM to 5PM.

Meetings are by appointment, however if there is a crisis within the hours of operation, the team will see the student based on their needs. If a crisis occurs before or after hours, a list of resource numbers is available at the bottom of this page.

Meet Our Indigenous Student Life Counsellor

Teioniehtathe Eli Hamelin

Email: tehamelin@crcmail.net

Teioniehtathe Eli Hamelin is a graduate of Champlain College Saint-Lambert and was an active member of the Indigenous Student Ambassador (ISA) program. He stayed involved with the program after graduation and was hired to take on the role of Indigenous Student Life Counsellor in September 2025. His role includes working directly with Indigenous students on campus, advising and supporting the ISA, coordinating activities and events and more! He is currently studying at Concordia University in Recreation and Leisure with a minor in First Peoples’ Studies.

About the ISA

The Indigenous Student Ambassador Program was created by Indigenous students from Kahnawà:ke who wanted to support fellow Indigenous students studying in post-secondary education in Quebec. We continue to move forward with the framework of a grassroots initiative to ensure the best opportunity for Indigenous students.

The Indigenous Student Ambassador Program was created with the idea of creating a safe and welcoming environment for indigenous students in post-secondary. The program continues with this goal along with many others such as Indigenization, cultural awareness, mentorship and more.

Student Access Centre

The Student Access Centre (SAC) at Champlain College promotes equitable access to education and student life and fosters an environment of inclusion and respect. Our mission is to offer accommodations and support to students with disabilities; to reduce barriers that prevent students from requesting accommodations and; to create a more equitable learning environment whereby less individual accommodations are required.

We work to provide our students with the tools they need to become empowered and autonomous. We help our students become self-led learners as well as to prepare them for their academic and professional futures. We collaborate with faculty and staff to increase their awareness of our services, of the accommodation process and of disabilities within the education system.

Any students living with a disability can request accommodations throughout their time at Champlain College. This includes learning disabilities, physical disabilities, neurological disorders, sensory impairments, organic disorders, mental health disorders as well as temporary disabilities or injuries.

Getting Started

Students who may require or who currently have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for academic accommodations should register with the Student Access Centre (SAC). Any students living with a disability has a right to access their education with reasonable accommodations. This includes learning disabilities, physical disabilities, neurological disorders, sensory impairments, and mental health disorders. Others who have special circumstances such as adults returning to school, allophones and single parents may benefit from accommodation and should also contact the SAC to see how they can be supported.

Steps to registering with the Student Access Centre:

  1. Contact us! Send a MIO message to SAC, or an email to sac@crcmail.net
  2. Complete the online intake form (which will be provided to you once you reach out).
  3. Provide any documentation you have (psychoeducational assessment, medical documentation and / or IEP).
  4. Meet with a SAC counsellor to assess your needs and create your college IEP.

Sexual Violence Support

Champlain College Saint Lambert is committed to providing a safe and respectful learning environment for all our students, staff and faculty members. As part of the Quebec government’s Bill 151: An Act to prevent and fight sexual violence in higher education institutions, we have adopted a stand-alone Policy against Sexual and Gender-based Violence.

Through the policy and procedures, it is the college’s duty to ensure that anyone impacted by sexual violence or assault will be able to access appropriate and timely resources and to provide a fair process for responding to and investigating any allegations of sexual violence.

Support and Resources

Our social worker works closely with the counselling department and administration to ensure that all our students are listened to and supported during any situation related to the Policy against Sexual Violence. Acting as the college’s Resource Person for students, any student can meet with her to disclose a situation, file a complaint, and/or receive accommodations as needed. If required, the resource person can accompany students throughout the whole process and help lessen any further trauma that may occur.

To make an appointment please MIO or Email Bouny Te or make an appointment through the Student Services office in F-121. All services are free and confidential.

How to Submit an Internal Complaint

Champlain Saint-Lambert has partnered with a company called ALIAS to help manage any internal complaints or reports. With ALIAS as a partner, they will be the first line of response to manage reports and ensure they are followed up on.

It is quick and easy to make an ALIAS report:
• Reports can be made online via a secure platform or by phone (1-844-264-6268).
• The service is bilingual and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,
in French and English.
• Users have access at all times to their file, which they can add to, ask
or answer questions, find out the status of their report, all while maintaining their anonymity.

Once a report is made by a student, teacher or staff member, ALIAS’s team
will help direct the complaint to the right college body and guide the user through the process. The College administration hopes that by partnering with a third party, complainants will feel more comfortable coming forward to make official statements and identify situations that require investigation.
