In response to the evolving centrality of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in education, Sara Hashem and Cintia Damasceno (Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) – Day Division), along with Marlon Sanches (Continuing Education), co-facilitated a workshop at Rendez-Vous CP 2025, the annual gathering of pedagogical counsellors, held on May 14 at the Université de Sherbrooke.
The workshop emerged from an intentional collaboration between CTL and Continuing Education, aimed at aligning and strengthening our pedagogical practices through an EDI lens.
The session, titled “Embracing EDI: Practical Approaches for Pedagogical Counsellors,” focused on exploring how EDI principles can be applied in practical, meaningful ways within educational practices. Using real-world-inspired case studies, participants explored key topics, including:
· Creating safe classroom environments
· Fostering a sense of belonging
· Supporting inclusive curriculum design
· Addressing bias in assessment practices
· Navigating difficult conversations
The workshop was deliberately designed to be inclusive and plurilingual, encouraging participation in French, English, and other languages. Online translation tools were provided to ensure accessibility and engagement for all attendees.
Drawing on their collective expertise, Marlon, Cintia, and Sara created a dynamic space that encouraged open dialogue around everyday pedagogical realities and emphasized how EDI continually intersects with teaching and learning.
This collaboration between the Day Division and Continuing Education highlights the shared commitment of Champlain Saint-Lambert’s pedagogical counsellors to fostering EDI-informed teaching and learning environments.
