On April 10, Champlain Saint-Lambert’s Continuing Education department had the pleasure of welcoming career and employment counselors from various South Shore organizations to an information session on the Recognition of Acquired Competencies (RAC).

Magalie Robitaille, an expert from the Center of Expertise in RAC (CERAC), presented the core principles of the RAC approach, explained its process, and highlighted its many benefits. She also shared helpful resources designed to support organizations in guiding their clients toward CEGEPs when appropriate.

Following her presentation, Mark Wallace, Director of Continuing Education, provided a brief overview of the college, Continuing Education services, and the RAC process. Continuing Education professionals then introduced the programs that offer RAC services at Champlain Saint-Lambert.

The session concluded with heartfelt testimonials from a recent RAC graduate and a RAC candidate currently going through the process. Both shared their personal experiences and spoke highly of the value of the approach.

Attendees—and even those who could not be present but received detailed documentation—agreed on the relevance of the RAC process for their clients. They appreciated being better equipped to discuss this valuable option with the people they support.

What is RAC?

Recognition of Acquired Competencies (RAC) is a service that allows individuals to gain academic credit for skills and knowledge they have acquired through past personal or workplace experience. Our department offers RAC services for several Attestation d’études collégiales (AEC) and Diplôme d’études collégiales (DEC) programs, both of which are recognized by the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur. RAC services are most often provided online and on an evening and weekend format to make them easily accessible.
