On Saturday, September 13, the Champlain Saint-Lambert women’s basketball team, representing the SLAM program, proudly participated in Tempo Live: Montréal Momentum, a historic weekend celebrating women’s basketball, leadership, and community.

This landmark event was organized by the Tempo, the new WNBA franchise based in Toronto, as part of their mission to grow the game and invest in grassroots development across Canada.

The Cavaliers took part in Saturday’s girls’ basketball clinics, where they worked alongside coaches, volunteers, and community leaders to create an inspiring space for the next generation of athletes. The event included more than 450 girls between the ages of three and 17.

“For our student-athletes, it was more than just basketball—it was an opportunity to lead, give back, and experience firsthand how the game can be used to uplift and empower,” said head coach Georges Germanos.

The event also highlighted the ongoing legacy of Champlain graduate and former Cavalier, Jennifer Mathurin. The founder of the Mathurin Family Foundation, Jennifer played a pivotal role in making the weekend possible.

Her vision and leadership set the tone for a celebration that included skill development, mentorship, and community connection, all anchored by the belief that sport can be a powerful force for change.

Looking ahead, SLAM is excited to continue collaborating with the Tempo as well as with the Mathurin Family Foundation.

“The natural connection with Jennifer, a proud former Cavalier, makes this collaboration especially meaningful and perfectly aligned with our mission to create opportunities for young women in sport,” said coach Germanos.

From the clinics to the unforgettable moments of inclusion and collaboration, and culminating with Sunday’s brunch and panel, Montréal Momentum embodied everything we strive for at Champlain—growth, leadership, and community.

The Cavaliers women’s team were proud to contribute to such a meaningful initiative and to stand alongside an alumna whose impact continues to reach far beyond the court.
