This year, Champlain Saint-Lambert’s graduating Sport Marketing and Management students raised a record-breaking $28,050 for the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation as part of the annual Champlain Cup fundraiser.
Sport Marketing teacher Charles Royce has been a longtime champion of this initiative which is integrated into the final year course work of the program.
“It’s remarkable,” said Royce. “It’s really become a capstone course where the students have the opportunity to put into practice everything they have learned over the last three years.”
The students work in teams across two semesters to organize six sports tournaments, raising money by soliciting donations, creating partnerships with local businesses and holding raffles to benefit the foundation.
Royce said that over the last 16 years, the Champlain Cup has raised more than $183,000 for the foundation with each new cohort continuing this admirable tradition. Last year, the students raised just over $11,000.
The foundation acknowledged the impressive donation by sending cards to all the students involved: “Thanks to your incredible effort, this is a record-breaking year since the start of our partnership in 2010. You should be extremely proud of what you’ve accomplished,” reads the card.
The Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation helps underprivileged youth discover the many benefits of sports and an active lifestyle. Since 2000, it has invested over $54 million into community programs that promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
“The Canadiens Foundation is a really easy cause to get behind,” said Royce. “Everyone embraces the chance to participate.”
