The Media Department is thrilled to announce the creation of a public art piece in the G-Block stairwell, planned and created by Media students. Ephemeral Convergence by Laurence Pétrin, Philippe Champagne, Éléonore Cloix, Emma Moss, Olivia Blais and Daniel Hernandez Villavicencio, 2025 was created over the course of the school year outside of their Media coursework and facilitated by art teacher Vanessa Vaughan with the permission of the College.

This initiative presents an invaluable opportunity for these emerging artists to engage in a meaningful, hands-on project that allowed them to leave a lasting legacy at the college, while simultaneously practicing key skills that will support their future endeavors in the art world.

Public art provides an excellent platform for students to build confidence in their creative abilities by working on projects with real-world implications. This special project with the graduating students has ensured that our public spaces reflect the vibrant, evolving culture of the college and enriches the visual and cultural landscape of our campus.

Ephemeral Convergence reflects the students’ desire to represent the sense of belonging and community that they have created during their studies at Champlain that is sometimes fleeting or temporary but is nonetheless meaningful and impactful. The use of bright colours reflects their own personalities that shine independently but are beautiful when they come together as a cohesive community. Although Cégep is a short time in their lives, it is one that is vibrant, full of uncertainty and yet profoundly life changing.
