Program Overview
Recognition of Acquired Competencies (RAC)
Champlain’s RAC services can help individuals obtain an AEC (Attestation d’études collégiales) by assessing their current competencies, and providing them with training for the ones they are lacking

Duration: 6 to 9 months.
Duration varies according to each candidate’s experience and availability.

Schedule: Seminars and other activities take place on Saturdays, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Description
RAC for Office Administration (OA) is for people who have a significant amount of work and life experiences in the office administration field, and wish to have their skills officially recognized by a Quebec college. Often, they work, or have been working in positions such as:
Champlain’s RAC services can help individuals obtain a AEC (Attestation d’études collégiales) by assessing their current competencies, and providing them with training for the ones they are lacking.
A DEC (Diplôme d’études collégiales) option also exists at Champlain, RAC for Office Management.
Competencies
The Office Administration AEC (LCE.53) is made of 14 competencies. To receive your AEC, you will have to be evaluated for all competencies.
Cluster A: Production and word processing of documents
00UW – Use Microsoft Word: format a document, do a mail merge.
00VA – Produce administrative documents: agendas, memos, reports.
00UZ – Write English texts and perform English linguistic revision: write, summarize, correct & improve a text.
Cluster B.2: Financial Resources Management
00V8 – Manage basic finances: perform Bookkeeping operations, balance petty cash, and produce a budget.
00UX – Use Microsoft Excel: produce a spreadsheet, process a multi-sheet document, and use graphs.
Cluster C: Office administration management
00VE – Use a records management system: establish a filing system according to laws and timelines and storage.
Cluster D: Oral and written communication in French
00V0 – Write French texts and perform French linguistic revision: write, summarize, correct & improve a text.
00V1 – Communicate in French: do an oral presentation and carry a business conversation.
Cluster F: Professional activities organization
00UY – Communicate in English: make an oral presentation and carry a business conversation.
00VM – Plan an event: organize an event and ensure functioning and follow to the event.
00V3 – Use office tools: treat mail, emails and use outlook calendars.
00V5 – Interact in various work situations: use interpersonal skills, stress management technics and team spirit.
Independent
00V9 – Use a database: create and operate a database using proper fields, forms, and reports.
EFA8 – Build a career: create a CV, cover letter & portfolio.
Admission Requirements
There are ministerial requirements and RAC specific requirements.
Ministerial Requirements
Applicants must have a Secondary V diploma or equivalent or have acquired knowledge and skills deemed sufficient by the College for potential success in the program. More specifically, they must show proof of:
- A Diploma of High School Studies OR
- A College Diploma or a University Degree OR
- A partial high school program, coupled with a recommendation from a current or former employer that they would benefit from pursuing their education at the post-secondary level.
AND
The applicant must meet one of the following requirements:
- Have interrupted studying full-time for at least two consecutive terms or one school year OR
- Be covered under an agreement between the college and an employer, or be benefiting from a government program OR
- Have completed at least one year of post-secondary studies over a period of one year or more OR
- Hold a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS/DEP).
RAC Specific Requirements
- RAC candidates should have significant work or personal experience (typically, a total of 2 years or more) in the field of a given program.
- RAC candidates can have prior experience in the field from a variety of sources (work, volunteering, personal study, etc.).
- RAC candidates need to be self-motivated and make time for evaluations and partial training when needed.

Cost
Maximum $575*
*There are no additional fees to use online resources, receive support from content specialists, or to attend seminars and work sessions. Maximum cost is only applicable to Quebec residents.
The fees for International Students and Non-Residents of Quebec are those listed here for Part-time students: Continuing Education Costs – Champlain College – Saint Lambert. The total number of hours of the Office Administration program to calculate the cost is 1140 hours.
Further details
To take advantage of the RAC process, candidates must pay certain fees. The fees are based on the number of evaluations that a Quebec resident candidate has to complete, and may vary from one person to another.
- $30 admission fee (non-refundable)
- $45 for a file analysis (non-refundable)
- $40 per competency (up to a maximum of $500)
Maximum total: $575
Please note that the fees above include all activities related to the RAC services. No additional fees have to be paid to:
- Attend a seminar on a specific topic
- Attend integration to the Quebec workforce seminars
- Consult the online resources
- Participate in job preparation activities
- Participate in expert-led group activities
- Book an appointment with an Advisor to prepare your Individual Evaluation Plan
- Book an appointment with a content specialist to receive individual tutoring
An additional $45 file analysis fee will apply if a candidate desires to change program.
