On October 15, members of Champlain’s Chemistry Club attended the annual Forces Avenir gala in Quebec City where they took home a trophy in the category of Science and Technology.

Since its creation, the Chemistry Club has gained enormous popularity with students who aim to embrace the excitement of scientific discovery outside of the classroom. Accompanied by Champlain chemistry teacher Manlio Alessi, the Chemistry Club has provided a place for learning, collaboration and fun for members.

The Forces Avenir awards aim to celebrate the achievements of high school, college and university-age students with a series of awards in various categories.

Over the last four years, representatives from Champlain Saint-Lambert have taken home an award every single year with students groups and individuals being recognized for their contributions and impact.

By pioneering hands-on experiments outside the pressures of the classroom, the Chemistry Club provides students with an engaging way to explore chemistry’s wonders — an experience that is especially valuable for non-science students, who rarely have the opportunity to work in a laboratory setting.

Beyond the lab experiments, it strengthens student-teacher connections through activities like the teacher-student trivia competition, structured peer-led study groups, and all-day final exam review sessions attended by over 100 students.

Student Kelly Ha represented the project, describing the outreach initiatives and how the club aims to foster the next generation of scientists.

Congratulations also to fellow Forces Avenir finalist the Black Lives Allyship Mission group which was nominated in the category of Society, Communication and Education for their impactful “Let’s Get Real” discussion on healthcare inequities.

While they did not take home a trophy, the BLAM team did an amazing job representing their project and spreading awareness about these important issues.

Champlain is proud to have such great projects recognized at the provincial level from a pool of other candidates from Cegeps across Quebec.
